It’s March Madness time so bookmaker Betcoin is doing a Betcoin Bracket Contest and giving away 50 BTC for a perfect bracket! No, that’s not a typo, FIFTY (50) BITCOIN! For those of you who are not familiar with what a bracket contest is, you select winners for the games in the 2018 NCAA March Madness Tournament from beginning to end. You will accumulate points based on your correct guesses, and the points won increase from round to round.
WHAT IS A BRACKET?
March Madness brackets are a form of sports betting based on the annual NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. The increasing interest in this event is fostered by March Madness brackets. A bracket is when the participant predicts the outcome of each game in the tournament. His or her predictions are compared against others in the pool, and whoever has the best picks wins the contest.
SEEDS
The four lowest ranked automatic bid teams and the four lowest ranked at-large teams in the tournament play in special play-in games called the First Four before the tournament. The rest of the field is split into four regions of 16 teams, and those regions are seeded from one to 16. The top team in each region plays the 16th team, the second plays the 15th and so on. The winners of each game goes on to the next round and so on until only one team is standing. A team is knocked out of the tournament and has to go home as soon as they lose once, so the pressure is incredibly high.
TIMEFRAME
The tournament takes place over three weekends starting soon after the middle of March.
Tiebreakers
If two or more players in a group finish with the same overall point total after a national champion is crowned, Betcoin uses the following system to break the tie (for tiebreakers, we only take predicted points into consideration):
First tiebreaker – Closest prediction of total points scored by both teams wins.
Second tiebreaker – Closest prediction for points scored by the winning team.
Third tiebreaker – Closest prediction for points scored by the losing team. If this last tiebreaker results in a deadlock, the players remain tied in the standings.
